If you have a 5.7 or 4.7 and the auto trans won't go into gear....try this....
Though I'd share this for any members who have the 4.7 or 5.7 with the Chrysler 545RFE transmission. With these transmissions if the fluid filters (there are 2 inside the pan) clog, or the spin on filter gets loose, the pump will not prime and the trans will not go into drive or reverse. This just happened to me at 120,000 miles. I used my vacuum pump to suck out as much fluid as I could then cracked the pan loose and sucked the rest out of the pan. There was approx 9-9.5 quarts in the pan. Then changed the filters, the important points is that there is a seal for the main filter (the flat one) that has to be tapped into the trans case with the flat side of a 19mm socket and a short extension. The other is that the spin on should be tightened to approx 10 ft lbs. These can get loose and cause the pump to suck air. I used the Chrysler spec RTV for trans pans bolted it up and let it cure overnight. Refilled the trans with 9.5 qts of ATF+4 and all was back to normal.
Next time I am going to use an aftermarket pan with a drain plug and a Lube Locker gasket. I detest RTV, for a few reasons.
