170kg!!!!! Thats a monumental amount of weight. You wouldnt get anywhere near that with a bullbar on a 200 series or a gu. Are you sure??? Paul Jk i'm inclined to believe you mate (especially as you fitted yours yourself) but i dont want to order one until i know for sure. Still waiting on the replies of a few emails so hopefully i'll know soon.

The ARB bar I put on mine was around the 43kg mark from memory, plus another 23 for the winch with dynema rope and a kilo or two for the lights. So all up around 68kg after removing probably 7 kilo of plastic and metal so around the 60kg changeover mark.

I would be really surprised if that bar was that much heavier than the ARB, if it was I would be seriously reconsidering your options!

EDIT: According to Jeepkonection the shipping weight is 50kg - http://www.jeepkonection.com.au/bar-...tlas-front-bar

You better check clearly. And yes, it is that heavy. Many have been discussing this bar before in US forums about its weight.
It was one of the bumpers I was interested in and saw it at DBOR. If not for the weight, I would have got that.

I'm currently looking into replacing the front bar with something able to mount a winch, and with recovery points.

I like the look (and price!) of this one from OAW4x4 which actually looks similar to the smittybilt one posted on page 1. Has anyone had any experience with this bar or this seller and products?

Also, what should I be looking for in terms of being airbag compliant? I want to both try and remain legal, but more importantly, ensure the airbag WILL actually go off in the event of a crash.

The central loop faces forward which means it probably isn't legal. Also if you slowly it a tree there is a high chance you will bend it. The side loops don't look very strong at all. The tubes are probably quite thin and will be pretty average Chinese steel.

If you're wanting to stay legal the forward facing recovery points would be a no no as well. They would need to be under the bar rather than on the front face.
Basically you can not have any forward protrusions on the bar as far as they are not pedestrian friendly (not that the 2T of 4WD behind them is anyway).

At the end of the day if you want to guarantee you will be 100% legal then you need to buy from one of the guys who's bars are ADR approved (ARB, TJM, Uneek, to name a few). They will be fully legal and air bag compliant.

Airbags in Australia operate from g force sensors in the centre console and do not rely on the sensors in the front bar like the US versions, so airbag effects should be minimal. However that said Australian bars should be tested and have a compliance plate on them and not have a forward facing hoop or the recovery points as mentioned previously.

A lot will depend on what your local constabulary are like and also what your insurance company is like should you get into an accident.
