2.5 crd compression
Any body know what should be a compression in cilinders in Jeep Liberty 2002y 2.5 crd?
A have checked it by the glow plug sockets and it was like:
1: 23 bar (333 psi)
2: 25 bar (362 psi)
3: 23 bar (333 psi)
4: 23 bar (333 psi)
Any body knows how the correct one should looks like?
I spoke with guys in Chrysler factory in Ohio US, and they did't help at all :/ I also waiting for respond from VM Motori in Italy, but after few days i still have no answer. I asked about it at few other forums, like in US, Russia, GB, Poland, Germany...still nothing, nobody knows :/
I heard that it should be at least 21 bar (300 psi) on each but i also heard from different mechanic that it should't be less then 32 bar (460 psi) in each cylinder. So i am a bit confused :/

Have you changed the timing in the motor.

What is the real problem?
If it starts & runs ok then why are you worried about the compression measurement?
There is also a chance the gauge is not accurate. Need to do the test at least 3 times on each cylinder.
Have you done a leak down test as well?
No point contacting Chrysler, they didnt build the engine.
What is your location?

The reason was and still is a blue smoke, i have changed the timing belt, turbo and injectors and the problem still exist. I am just wondering if there is a sens to put more money in to it, cause if the compression is to low because of some fuckup inside of the engine, it gona be more expensive than buy another KJ. But, if its ok, it meens that it is worth to build a nice 4x4 by spend another hundred and thousand of "polish zlotych" :P
Yeah, i did not know before that the engine is made in Italy by vm motori :P but i contacted them as well, with no respond.
My location - Poland, Warsaw
The compression test was done 4 times on each cylinder but i did not do the leak down test

When does the blue smoke happen?
If you were having a lot of starting trouble as well I would think rings.
Are there any other issues? excessive blowby?
There is a Facebook group for VM's. They are based in the EU. maybe worth asking there.
Most common cause of blue smoke is turbo issues. The seal fails. lots of smoke when you accelerate.

My old KJ 2.5 crd started to blow a bit of blue smoke, I think its mostly wear on stem seals ect. Didn't actual affect driving power , just a bit smokey.
I seem to remember that the Turbo CRD's do have a lower mechanical cylinder compression than non-turbo diesels, the extra running compression comming from the turbo.

Are the readings dry or wet?
If dry then do a wet test and see what they look like. If they go up then you can surmise that rings/cylinder boar wear is likely the cause of the blue smoke. If they don't go up then it's something else.
Did a bit of searching aruond and couldn't find anything concrete but the 2.5 has a compression ratio of about 21:1 according to the service manuals so by my quick and dirty calculations (CR X atmo air pressure) your compression pressures should be somewhere near 310psi as a minimum reading
The book says no more than 5bar/72psi difference between cylinders.
As an example, another deso engine in the family has a 17:1 compression ratio and the minimum pressure reading for that engine according to the book is 250psi
