Angry Rear windshield glass wont fit!

Hi All,

So I found a hardtop. Woohoo 03. For my TJ 03. Perfect match

Unfortunately the rear hardtop glass shattered as I was working on the TJ.

DON’T ASK.

Anyway. I call O’Brien glass to fix it. They had to order the part from Sydney - OK. Cool. I specifically told them 03 and gave them the VIN.

They come out to my workplace to fit it. Say the rear wiper motor won’t fit. I go out and have a look and to my dismay, the wiper motor is just not lining up with the holes in the glass.

They tell me in might be a defective aftermarket glass - they will order another one. Glass has a label that says 03-06 on it.

I get a call today saying new glass has come in.

I go to shop today to check the holes match with the wiper motor. That way they don’t have to waste time coming out to work if it doesn’t fit.

AGAIN! Does not fit. The holes in the glass are way off.

I know 96-02 Hardtops are slightly different. But the rear glass too?

They are trying to say that windshield motor is not OEM. It’s got a MOPAR part number on it!

I can’t find any definitive answer. Can someone please help??????

Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

So I did a lot of research on the weekend. I found out that there is in fact a difference in the glass for the rear hardtop glass 96-02 as opposed to 03-96.

Rear wiper motor on the 03 top rear glass WILL NOT line up with 96-02 glass.

Holes just don’t measure up!

The part can be found at Autoglass Warehouse in Brisbane (SKU: 44239_1)

O’Briens coming back out today - hopefully with the correct part. Otherwise I’ll be crying the foetal position at work. Rocking myself gently to sleep.

Have to say O’Breins have been pretty cool in trying to sort this out

It can be pretty frustrating. O'Briens did the same thing to me when I needed my work Hilux canopy glass replaced. It took them a couple of goes to get the right one in.

When they finally did, it was taking forever. The guy called me into the workshop and said that he had to shave some of the metal window frame down to try and get it to fit but it still didn't fit properly. He told me he'd run out of time and wouldn't do anymore to it and handed me back the keys.

When I got home, I worked out what the issue was and within 5 minutes had it sorted.

Apart from that I have had some pretty good experiences with them.

I had a 2003 TJ years ago and while I can't comment on the glass specifically, I do recall being constantly on that bubble between ordering an '02 or '03 part. Though it could have been just my Jeep - we did name it "4:50 Friday".

Glad the company is working with you on this one. Let us know if it goes right!

Slightly off topic.. but I am currently in the process of ripping out the wiring loom for a hard top from a 2004 to put in my 2003 etc etc..
Slight issue with the rear wiper arm.. looks like its missing a piece (spline) that the arm actually sits on..
I dont suppose you could put up a picture of the wiper arm where it attaches to the actual motor.. I just want to see why the arm that came with the motor will not attach.
