Haha , don't blame yourself there. Xj's are made in a way that same symptoms can be caused by several parts at fault. Some even at the same time. And preferably intermittent.

Nothing much but last night cut some rubber for rear floor and started my version of onboard air. Have a small tank to mount underneath tonight if it stops raining.Click image for larger version

Ok so checked when cold and was pretty much the same
Maybe not quite as bad but

Changed cam sensor. Same.
Checked compression. Fine.
Checked fuel pressure. Borderline fine.
Plugs are perfect colour.
changed monthish old coil for an original unit,
WELL ******** ME
shitbox free revs like a drag car
Swap coil back, back to being crap.

Test drive asap
