Default Changing power steering fluid

Hi,

WG 2.7 crd.

What's the procedure for draining and replacing the power steering/fan fluid?

Cost at dealer if you know?

Thanks

I blew mine out with air, but not through the hydraulic fans motor. That will damage it.

The big thing is to bleed out the air when refilled. Jack up the front and wind lock to lock several times. Then drive with caution first time. I got caught and ended up on the footpath at a traffic calming island when air got into the steering box first drive. I was lucky. It could have ended muck more badly.

Jack up front of vehicle and support on stands on each side so that both front wheels are off the ground.Turn ignition on to unlock steering, but do not start engine.Remove return line(low pressure hose) from reservoir and place end of hose into a suitable container/empty plastic water bottle.Turn steering wheel lock to lock slowy and fill reservoir with new power steering fluid at same time as level drops.Do not allow fluid level to drop below min mark, and you wont get air in system and therefore there is no need to bleed system.Once clean new fluid starts coming out of return hose, reconnect return hose and top up reservoir to full mark.Replace fluid reservoir cap.Lower vehicle and start engine for a few minutes, and check for leaks.Job done.
Thats how I do it anyway.

How does the fluid circulate through the system with the pump not operating?

Thanks

It circulates slowly when you cycle/turn the steering wheel from lock to lock(left to right fully).

OK. I haven't looked at any diagrams, but is the steering rack looped in with the fan or are they separate.

Which is the return line to disconnect?

Thanks

The high pressure hose from the pump heads to the fan and the fan distributes high-pressure fluid to the sterring gear and the fan itself.
