Default Headlight Switch Urgent

Hi guys, im a bit stressed out and hoping for some advice.

It looks as though the headlight switch on my XJ has died again. About 2 months ago i replaced it because the headlights died and now i can get either dash and park lights OR headlights but not both. The switch i put in was second hand and when i opened it up to look inside it was a mess.

Soo, can anybody tell me where to get a switch in Perth without going to the dealer and paying $280+? I am willing to go second hand for the right price but would much prefer a new one.

If you have one for sale please call me on 0413429879.

Thanks, Ben

9. Headlight switch fails
Headlight switches have been known to fail. The risk of this is greater if you have installed higher wattage globes. For more details see http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ad.php?t=64062 or to upgrade the headlight wiring loom to incorporate a relay and thus reduce the load on the switch see: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ad.php?t=64823 or http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm. Replacement switches are available from Poly4x4 or Jeep. It might pay to keep a spare in the glovebox.

always pay attention so sticky threads as they can be the simplest answer.

But yes the older holden ones are a fine replacement and cost about 20 bucks.

OK, I have already reas Go-Jeeps writeup and know why it's failing. It doesn't really help me get a new one. I've already replaced the original and got a second hand one of Rodge but it only lasted a couple of months and was full of much inside with slight corrosion.

As far as the old Holden ones go i was chasing a direct plug in replacement. I have bought a generic one which will fit but theres no way i can get to the wirring as it's behind the dash. Also the Jeep plug has 8 connections while my new one has 3.

If you want to plug and play ... then you need a new or secondhand OE switch.

Either that or do the initially difficult part of accessing the wiring, working out which of the 8 connections go to which of the 3 connections on the other switch. A multimeter and a wiring diagram will make this easy. Extending the switch plug wiring after cutting off the burnt out switch , will also make it easy to work on as a whole. Connect the loose end of the extensions to the new switch and plug it back together.
