One of your idler bearings or maybe the bearing in the viscous heater etc. might need to make up a stethoscope to narrow it down??????

That's what I thought as well. Just wanted to your thoughts on the matter. It's 100% on the left side, and one of the pulleys is new. Hoping it's not the heater or the alternator bearing. Are these pulleys available at Mercedes? I have found them on eBay from Germany, but wife is pregnant and she's gonna pop any day now, so really want to fix it asap.

It's not sounding like water pump to me. It sounds like what mine did. The 2.7 thread has write up links to replacing the bearings. I did the heater, the alternator and all the belt pulleys. You don't need Jeep or MB for any of them just a good bearing shop. Alternator is least likely as the overrun pulley usually goes first and it is characterized by a squeek when shutting down. You can get the idlers at auto stores, the originals are plastic so bearings can't be replaced.
If it turns out to be bearings inside alternator they are common too.
Heater one is like air con clutch so a bit dear at approx $60.

Sounds stupid but mine was making a similar noise, turned out to be that metal pipe from the viscous heater vibrating, hold it see if the noise goes away.

That noise sounds like the overrun or decoupler pulley on the alternator. Mine made the same noise and I replaced a all of the idler bearings which needed to be done, but they din't eliminate this noise.
As Fester said if you get a chirp or squeak on shutdown this is a good indication the alternator pulley is knackered.
