The muffler or Cat Converter (not sure which) mounted mid vehicle on my Trail Hawk has four holes (roughly 3mm dia) in each corner that release exhaust gases in an anoying spluttering sound! Why Jeep Why?
I believe that those are usually seen on the last muffler and are for draining condensation out after short runs. If the exhaust system doesn't heat up enough the water condenses & rusts the muffler out, otherwise.
Pretty sure there's a Tech Bulletin or similar out about that - AFAIK they are obliged to replace that type of muffler if the customer has complaint...
I'm pretty sure I've also seen something about easing the holes out to 1/8 being a fix to stop the futtering noise. Ours makes that noise for a short while from cold but not otherwise.
The one in tsb picture had pressed rims arround the holes which is the one i presumed would replace mine yesterday but the new one fitted doesnt seam to have any holesm im going to question the tech about this maybe they changed the design.
Not sure about drilling it out to a bigger size hmmm
