Default WH CRD Engine Number?

Question for anyone who has physically checked the engine number stamped on their CRD block, does your engine number match your VIN number?

The engine number on my rego documents is the same as the last 8 digits of my VIN number. But the actual number stamped on my block does not match.

I tried contacting FCA Australia to check it but they were a complete waste of time. Also tried a couple of dealers who seemed to think they should match but didn't have any way to look it up to confirm.

Does anyone know any way to check what the original engine number was from the factory?

My Jeep has only done 150K kms, so I'd be surprised (and concerned) if it has actually had an engine replacement..

So I guess that means I have had an engine change.

Any ideas where I could look up where this engine came from?
ie reverse lookup the VIN number from the 6 digit engine number?
