Default XJ Transmission Oil Coolers

On the blue jeep the little cooler is the factory auto cooler. Point less in warm climate if the oil travels through a radiator that is around 100 degrees. Only go through the radiator if you live in sub zero climate

Ok well I have bought a cooler for a 6 cylinder. Should I take that one out or just put the new one in?

auto oil flows out of the front fitting on the transmission and returns to the pan via the rear most fitting.
The cooler oil line is low pressure so no need to get carried away with high pressure fittings or hose, just make sure its good for 200 degrees C.

Wow what a read, started reading this to see where to fit temp sensor for my transmission - towing and hot feet is my issue, so - new cooler, ditch factory one, have decided to go with Davies Craig 678, in line sensor on return and bipass radiator, mounting new cooler on drivers side in front of rad and will install manual switch for thermo fan and may replace fan with better option. Hopefully will improve, may not be perfect but will help based on info I have read here, thanks to all who did the hard yards here.

Take your sensor to Enzed or Pirtek and they will fit a T piece with barbs and supply transmission oil hoses. If you replace all the pipe with hose routed along the chassis you will avoid crushed pipes later. Personally I have my sensor near the tranny outlet because it more closely mimics the pan temp.

got a little manifold I guess thats what you call it with the gauge, just had to buy a couple of fittings, so all installed and working. Early testing is promising, short run around town, 5 0 - 60 kph, few stops at lights max temp was close to 60c, on highway drops quickly to around 45 - 50 - this is return line from upgraded cooler, mounted cooler on passenger side figured fan will pull air through always rather than on thermo side would be something else I could forget to switch off or on.

I think with bonnet vent and highway speed a lot of air is pulled through radiator etc, happy so far, here is pic of gauge, no pics of install is similar to others just a t-piece into trans line.
