What type of seat are you after?
There's the fixed back, reclining, suspension seats, light weight racing style. If you do alot offroading then suspension would be they way to go.

Have a look on poly performance or quadratec to get an idea of a style you like and a price you agree with, some come with jk seat brackets. They can range from $300 to $1000 plus per seat depending on options.

Check http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa.../vsb_ncop.aspx scoll down to the seating pdf.
From memory you need approval from DOT for modification and engineers stamp unless you are upgrading to a better factory seat for the model of car. If it has side airbags already I think you may have to retain that...not fully sure, best to have a read

I seem to recall someone replacing theirs with ones out of a Subaru Liberty for the extra side support.

I never realised that you need to get engineered for replacing a certified seat with another certified seat. But they are the national standards. We need to look up what each state has to say as well.

I have seen few people with after market seats especially the Front Driver and Passenger replaced with well known brands.

DBOR sells them or can get them what you need.

If you have side air bags you might not be on the lucky side.

Engineer told me that he would need to test to the point of destruction, any after market seat before he could certify it.

I fitted corbeau seats in my 2010 JK as they were DOT certified replacement seats in the US, you choose which seat you want and then the JK specific base. Unbolt the standard seat and bolt in the new ones, seat belt mounts are in the same place as OE bases.

The other option is mastercraft, they also do a bolt in replacement.
