High kilometers = High temperatures?
Here we go again another temperature thread ..........
Now I went for a run out the 18 mile today a fifty k round trip outside temp was about 24 jeep ran perfectly but temps high ....?
as you all know the whole cooling system is micky mouse and the heads been done 560 k ago all good cruises at 18/19 hundred rpm at 100k but the temp is a constant 108/110 deg ? I just and reread rodgebones sticky
" So what's too hot and what's normal? Interpretation of this is highly subjective and will vary with operating conditions, mods and system integrity but the design actually allows for very hot temps within normal operating parameters (almost to 117*C which is virtually redline on the gauge). Generally, operating temps can fluctuate anywhere around 95-112*C in normal driving conditions but ideally about 108*C is max. Personally, I consider anything over 112*C on a hot day suspect but the system shouldn’t actually boil over until it hits the redline. So between 112*C and 117*C (boil over) you should watch things very closely"
................................ so its not too hot close to the edge though is it because of high kilometres? just turned over 380000 k today the engine is good good compression no oil burn maybe a bit hard to start on cold days old wires I think or is the temp gauge outa whack? I have no idea a aftermarket temp gauge for a second opinion ?
or just accept it

mine ran hot exactly like yours for a while, and I strongly suspect that was caused by NOT bleeding the cooling system of air, taking quite extreme measures, this was mentioned to me by a pro, they are known for this after work on cooling system.
The only change I have made since I got it is to replace a split radiator, (with a $100 plastic unit) and install a thermostat
it now runs about 90-95, up to 100 if worked hard or idled
I had to idle it for over 30mins in 35C heat to make the thermo fan come on, and the temp stabilised ~100-105

dunno I thought I burped the cooling system when I filled it with coolant after the head was off might try it again run with the cap off until the thermostat opens and wait for bubbles worth a try

I park mine nose up on the passenger side to have the radiator cap at the highest point. Run the engine and keep it full for a while.
On another note I have found my cars run at about 105 degrees even if I use a slightly lower temp thermostat!

after mine ran hot, and a pro said they were a bitch, parked mine on a steep slope, but also make a tight fit funnel out of 2L drink bottle
run & slightly crack rad tap, idle till thermo is definite open,
then keep overfilling via funnel till it absolutely wont take another drop
if you have a temp sensor at rear, you can loosen that of, but I would hesitate, as mine cracked in half

Rusty's right. nose up with left a little higher. I take the top hose off, cap off, then fill slowly through the inlet where the top hose goes. I reckon this helps get air out of cross flow tubes & I shake the jeep a bit to help dislodge air bubbles, top hose back on when it's as full as you can get it, then finish filling, start up & leave running, give top hose a squeeze now & then until sure no more air, fill recovery tank cap on & shut off & let cool while still nose up. Recovery tank level usually drops a bit when it cools. After first drive park same position & let cool. With mine rad is full after it cools & stays that way. Did you notice any corrosion in coolant galleries when you had the head off? If yes might want some RMI-25 from Cost Effective Maintainance in Bris. I think it was rainman posted about it a couple of years ago.

The best way, use a proper funnel....
The funnels are cheap if doing this a lot....
