UPDATE:

I haven't gotten the sensor out to look at or replace yet.

However, I put some DPF cleaner in the tank and it seems to have fixed the P2002 code (DPF Efficiency Low), but the P042D code is still sporadically coming on, particularly early mornings in cold weather.

I will take the sensor out ASAP and clean it with compressed air blower/get pet number and put it back in and see if it keeps bringing up the P042D code (fingers crossed not).

The two additives I used are:
- Nulon DPF Cleaner (300mls to 30L diesel): https://www.nulon.com.au/images/file...ns/PB-DPFC.pdf
- Penrite Enviro DPF Clean (300mls on empty tank, 30L diesel on top), : http://www.penriteoil.com.au/tech_pd...rch%202014.pdf

Will update soon.

Very uncommon yet annoying issue, would be good to have a thread on the internet showing a resolution for other owners as these cars get older.

So after using both the Nulon and more powerful Penrite, neither have stopped the P042D code MIL coming up, but the DPF error has stopped.

Next step to get an exhaust shop to take the sensors out/clean and see if that does anything.

I have only just found out last week via my mechanic that our 2011 CRD O2 sensor (exhaust down pipe ) doubles up as a temperature sensor as well.
It is a 6 wire sensor from the exhaust down pipe to a connector in the engine bay by the EGR cooler, very easy to change.
The sensor was measuring a constant 5 volts telling the DPF to regen when it was not needed.I also got the 2002 code on one occasion.
My mechanic said the 3 temp sensors associated with the DPF are O2 sensor, sensor in DPF canister and sensor in exhaust manifold pre turbo.

Hmm that's interesting.

Have you just had your sensors replaced, and no more issues since?

Hopefully you fault will be fixed but only if this o2/temp sensor is no. 2.
Sensor 2 could be the one in the DPF canister or pre turbo.
Unfortunately i don't know how these sensors are numbered via the OBD.
All 3 are relatively easy to change but the DPF will have to be removed to replace the sensor pre turbo.
