The reason manufacturers spec 5W-20 and similar light oil in modern engines is to achieve fuel economy and emission targets.

Are you sure it was PENNZOIL not PENRITE?

I have used Penrite's tech support service and they are very helpful, worth the time to call or online chat.

Oops! - yes - it was Penrite... - I've used Pennzoil in aeroplanes in the past so that's where that crept in from (believe it or not, we used to get 200L drums of Pennzoil Aviation oil from Autopro! - cheaper than other brands and superior quality - we found it to be excellent - ie. clean rings, minimal sludging etc.).

Maybe not so much... - from new our TH had this momentary nasty clashing sound on startup which I just assumed was badly shimmed starter or something like that (it was THAT kind of noise) - but when I put Nulon 5W30 Full Synthetic oil into it at the 24 month oil change, that noise disappeared instantly and completely. I'm reading on USA forums that noise was probably the valve train.

For the 6 month, 12 month and 18 month oil changes I had used Penrite 5W30 Synthetic oil - Penrite has always been my go-to automotive oil until now.
