remember you're gaining width not necessarily just height, so for beach driving the 265 would work well without a lift, both will give about max 1 inch higher... 285/70/17 are not a true "33"" they are just shy of 33" but the width is significantly better which is why it'll rub so much

265/70r17 work well. Same diameter as original 245/75. Means no auto gear shift issues, speedo etc.
Fits stock rims, no rubbing.
265 are readilly available everywhere.
Consider a bit lower air pressure on road as it can ride nicer. I run 32 for general driving just above the TPMS alarm.

I have a '08 manual 3.8, with 2" lift, & 3.21 diffs. To be honest, I couldn't really tell much difference going from 255/75R17 to 285/70 MT, or when I went back to 265/70 AT. The latter, probably because the rolling diameter has not changed significantly.

I had to adjust the speedo by ~5% going from 255-285, but none when I switched back to 265.

The 285 fitted ok with the lift, but would rub just a little on the sway bar at the front. I never quite had the funds to regear.

I use 285/70r17 tyres with Mopar Savegre wheels and never had any rubbing on the sway bar or on the flares at full lock but I did have rubbing on the front flares at full compression if the wheels weren't pointed straight ahead, which I fixed with 1" bumpstop pads (rubber blocks) until I lifted my Jeep.

I do a lot of beach driving and frequent rock crawling where the 285s feel more capable than stock 245's did, although this is just as much down to the tyre itself than the width.
