2012 KK Jet - Time for new brakes.
Hi all,
It's time for new rotors and pads on my KK Jet. She's done 99,000 with a change of pads only, still on original rotors. I'm getting some pulsing and a bit of shaking when braking at higher speeds.
What rotors and pads are you guys using? Note the 2012 has larger front rotors than previous years. What size do I need to get?

Can’t you machine them at least once and replace next time?
Also remember reading that the only reason the caliper/disc was changed for the Jet was to use common parts found on newer CDJ models, therefore by rights the disc should be easily obtained if you can find out what other vehicles it was common with.
You may need to do some measuring and research - check lostjeeps too.

Thanks for the info. I was planning on doing the work myself, so how does one go about getting the discs machined?

When I was in my apprenticeship we used to call a mobile on-car disc machine company. They would turn up machine the discs on the car and off they go.
Just whip off the callipers is all you need to do. They may or may not still be around/legal.
I might google out of curiosity to see if they are still around as my jeep may be up for a disc skim in 12 months time...
Edit: these are still around... good to know.

At one stage you could take your discs down to Repco or similar and they’d machine/skim them there. Basically any brake specialist will offer that service for about $15-20 per disc.

I’ll add that the discs are easy to remove once the callipers are clear, just twist off the washers/clips that are on some of the studs and they’ll come straight off. Might need a little tap just to break the rusty bond.
The handbrake will need to be down to remove the rears and this is a great time to service, clean and adjust the handbrake shoe mechanisms.

Problem is most common cars (ford's and holdens) you can buy new discs for 30-50 bucks each.. so $20 to skim each, travel time and wait... Its easier for a workshop to just replace with new.
If you are in Melbourne, I can do RDA rotors new for cheap
