If it was the alternator, you should have seen a dash light for it.

Can you turn the car over by hand? A ratchet on the crank pulley bolt can do this.

As mike_nofx said your starter motor wouldn't stop the car while it's running. If the engine turns over by hand, and the battery doesn't drop to less than 10v while cranking, I'd be checking wiring connections and fuses.

Also, you can take the battery out and take it to supercheap where they can do a free check on the battery and give you a print out with the CCA's.

Are you saying you can manually start an auto? I'd love to see an example of this?

12.4 volts without load means nothing. You need to put a load on to determine battery condition. Your starter could draw 100 amps initially so a battery needs to be in good condition, have it tested first, I think you will find it is U.S.

No mention if the cars thrown an error code. A no cost effort is to disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. Worth a try

12.4 feels a little low for a yellow top. I would have expected to see over 13v at rest on the battery.

Have you tried a jump start?
