Hey everyone

I took out the Michelin rubber floor mats I had to clean the cherokee and noticed it was damp underneath, I went a step further and lifted the carpet and found a swimming pool. to cut a long story short, removed seats and carpet and cleaned all the water, the carpet is soaked but not all the way through, I thought it might be the air con drain so I turned it on and let it run for a long while but nothing happened, I then got the hose and trickled water on the drivers side ( thats were the carpet was soaked the most) and instantly you could see water begin to pool in the drivers footwell, I thought it was the windscreen but on closer inspection inside I found the rubber grommet from the electric aerial was damp, I again trickled water this time looking at the grommet and thats when i confirmed it, the grommet was letting the water into the cabin. Going to remove the wheel arch cover to get to the aerial and pull out the grommet and put silastic through it, and then test again.

Put a multimeter to my battery when at idle. read 13.91 average when the uage was sitting about halfway between 9 and 14 so it must be a miss reading guage. ill still have to test it at night with the lights and access' on to see what it reads but i think im up for a new guage.

Finally fitted new crank angle sensor to the XJ after quite a hassle getting the correct part.
First one sent to me had the wrong loom connector, second one was right connector but wrong part altogether(TJ), third time around was correct thankfully.
Luckily the car wasn't out of action while all this back and forth interstate posting was going on, as it only failed when hotter than normal.
Apparently my XJ uses the post-update part even though it is a pre-update car.
Something to bear in mind, check your loom connector before ordering a crank sensor, it will be either the three round pin type or the three flat pin type, mine was the latter.
cheers.

Was going to fabricate an auxiliary petrol tank for the 99 xj and ended up fitting the updated LRA model very well made, and glad I did as it has the separate tank pressure reservoir and hand brake mods included to suit the later models and saved a lot of headaches. Tank fitted. Also fitted rear tray bracing support plate for exterior upper LPG tank brackets including 5mm nutserts and screws for the luggage tie downs in rear to allow removal instead of rivets.
