Angry Kj 2003 Sport Wrangler 2.8Lt CRD Cuts out at half way on temp gauge

Hi, my jeep wrangler sport crd 2.8Lt is giving me all sorts of curry. Any ideas would be appreciated. When driving its running perfect, however as soon as it hits half way on the temp gauge the vechile shuts down and will not restart again until it has cooled down to about 1/4 on temp gauge, usually 10-20 mins later. we have checked, fuses, relays, sensors, battery, alternator, radiator, fuel. To no avail This has been going on for about 2 weeks, however the last 2 days when you go out to t the key, the battery is dead! Any idea on the gremlin we are chasing?

There's a couple of threads on the wrangler forum with similar problems. The answer seemed to be found in this post:

"In another thread a guy is having similar problems as you, it's his camshaft Position sensor, located in the distributor. If you unplug it and the issue goes away, it's the sensor. Try that.."

EDIT: Just realised you're running a CRD so that might not be it..

Actually, this guy is running a CRD with the same problem and it was also the crank sensor so that might well be your problem:

The fact that no JK of any engine variant has a distributor casts some doubt on this solution.....

Don't worry... I'm waiting for someone to tells us that diesels don't have spark plugs, distributors etc.... then we can have some educational fun
