Default Oil quantities

Recently bought a couple of 6 litre Nulon 5w-40 oil on special.
Was doing the oil change and i decided to measure out the oil as i put about 7.8 litres in the engine.
The first 6 litre pack measured out at 5.5 litres.
Made me think, i wonder how accurate the contents of these oil packs are?

Funny that as I seem to get a bit more out of mine, I measure using a proper oil bottle, in some cases I have had 10.5 lts in a 10lt keg which pleases me.... I don't measure whats in the keg often but always measure by the litre into the engine..
I once got suss as I use a 2.5lt bottle in the spares box and after an oil change (7.5lt) I tipped the rest into the spares bottle as it was empty, it overfilled so I checked my other 10lt keg it had more than 10 in it.

I often wondered about that as well...though over the last half dozen oil changes I have bought 7 Litre containers, and then added a measured 600ml in to the container. The dip stick always reads spot on after that so I guess I am getting close to 7 litres each time...

When purchasing oil, I always look at how full the containers are. Normally you see variations of around 1/2" in the sight strip on the side of the container between the packs. Never just pick up an unopened carton of 4 packs. Open it & check. Any low ones, replace with full ones.
