Default Could this be the cause of my engine noise........

Good morning all,

I decided to get under the JK and check the steering system to discover this lovely green mess, I have recently washed down the engine bay so I know its quite fresh.

Could this be the cause of my engine whine? I had suspected the PS pump but the noise in no way is affected by steering.

Also judging by the residue my anti freeze ratio is way to high, looks like I shall be doing pump, thermostat, belt and idlers asap any tips on where to shop are greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Ash

That looks like your water pump is about to fail. The seal leaks a bit & the bearing gets coolant in it & presto !! failure

Yea as I thought, I will record the whining sound and upload it soon, looks as though my coolant is very thick with antifreeze so now doubt that is a contributing factor.

Is there a place to get belt, pulleys, thermostat and pump from at a good price?

Depends on your idea of 'a good price'!! In Australia I don't believe there is such a thing.

$55 for the pump from Quadratec - http://www.quadratec.com/products/51212%200020.htm

$60 for the pump from Morris 4x4 - http://www.jeep4x4center.com/water-p...4666044aa.html

$230 (at $81 off) from Jeep Overstock Australia - http://www.jeepoverstock.com.au/Store/Product/?id=4842

Wooders had the listed on an old thread on here (2 years ago) for $150 but they are not coming up properly on their website at the moment. But that gives you an idea at least anyway.

Here is a clip of the waterpump noise my Samsung s3 almost had a play date with the drive belt at one point there.

I just drained 3L of fluid from the system and replaced it with water as I did not like the ratio, on a positive note the fluid is immaculate that is currently in there, last changed in Feb.
