Gave the shed a much deserved cleanup and decided I need to start stripping the 8.8 so I know what I'm dealing with. Thankfully all the parts I need to keep are in perfect condition so I gave it all a degrease and went about making a cradle for it to sit on. Can't see it in the photo but it has a removable pinion stand so I can rotate it around of fitting gears. Also cut off all the old mounts, brake line tabs and the abs sensor protective fins and started cleaning back the tubes....

After doing some research on the web I came across something I'd never read about the 8.8's before and it had to do with the oil return ports from the axle tubes and the fact that it's not uncommon for them to be missing from either side? I checked mine and it turns out I'm missing the drivers side! So I'll rectify that while it's apart. Photos aren't the best but you'll get the idea....

Not a big deal it can still drain back through the bearing somewhat, but handy thing for anyone building one up.
