Just test drove the JK Unlimited Sport with hardtop in 3.8L manual guise....
First impressions:-
1) Not as powerful as my CRD KJ - I'd get the CRD
2) I'd prefer an auto, getting lazy in my old age
3) Everything inside is very sharp edged - the drivers door sticks into your arm anyway you try and rest it on it
4) Quiet inside - well insulated from road and engine noise - can hardly hear the engine
5) No rattles and feels solid on the road, much more so than my lifted KJ (lower centre of gravity)
6) Ride is good on smooth freeway at 100km/h
7) Ride is choppy on anything but smooth road - as to be expected by dual solid axle setup - my dad's Patrol feels the same but to a lesser extent
8.) you could sense its obvious offroad prowess
9) driving position is good, can see over the bonnet easily
10) seats are comfortable, but quite narrow width (across your hips when seated)
11) dash in front of passenger scratches horrendously easily
12) roof removes easily and is solidly built - cool to have a targa top once in a while
13) absolutely nowhere to rest your left foot when you take it off the clutch pedal!
14) couldn't quite work out where the baby seat would attach to - nothing on the back of the seat like the KJ
15) width of steering wheel a definite improvement over the KJ's skinny one
16) EVIC displayed 13.7L/100km (demo had done 69km only and the loop driven was mostly free flowing dual carriage way with a couple of k's of freeway - so expect 15-16 around town
17) sales guy told me to fit the tow bar they have a template to cut (yes CUT!) the rear bumper number plate protrusion. The number plate is then relocated to the side under the left tail light - but it'll stick out the side of the painted part of the car to level with the bumper - this will look crap! should be getting a rear tire carrier number plate mount like the KJ
