Default ZJ tail gate strut bolts

Hi all, got some new tailgate struts for my ZJ and went to swap them over today only to find the original mounting bolts are something i've never seen before.

Bolt head looks like the tip of a torx bit? Figured a normal socket or ring spanner would probably do the job, but it's smaller than 8mm.

Anyone know if it's a specific tool or just a 6mm socket or similar????

Hey Moorey, not sure if the zj is the same as the xj, but if it is you don't need to unscrew anything to change them. It's just a spring clip at each end that pops off. Swing past if you need sme help with them.

Thanks mate, will pop over, maybe next weekend? (bust week ahead)

Body end looks like press on, but t/gate looks like bolt on. New struts have mounting bracket same as stock, strut appears to be press fit into it.

yep there the sockets you need.
About $10 ebay.
Yes you do need to undo them on the ZJ.

Thanks, any idea on size? I'm guessing 6mm based on putting 8mm ring spanner over it.
