At the end I'm a fussy bugger and like to make sure all is as good as it can be, besudes it can't hurt to have a play.

Plus I've never really trusted those pesky Europenas
if you change the resistor you will possibly throw a code which will stay in history as egr related, you can easily check the shunt with a volt meter

I managed to get to Jaycar and buy some bits, all $1.40 with plenty of spares if I stuff up. Had a quick look this evening while I repaired a flat L/H steer that the missus managed to get and I can see sore knuckles when I go for the cable run, might be able to get to it this weekend.

I've added an extra 100 ohms and am much happier now. No CEL so far, but I haven't checked for codes so who knows.

Well it's now 12 mths on, how's the shunt working for you blokes that did the mod ????

Mine hasn't missed a beat, I know it must be working as the valve is fully disconnected, my wiring job hasn't failed me either, though I have a spare unit made up ready to plug in just in case. Don't know if it was this mod but my economy has gone from 9.3 to 8.9/100 overall and my foot hasn't got any lighter. Been looking for a socket to make up a fancy shunt but no luck so far.

Gotta say nothing to report. As in all is fine and have not noticed anything . Car feels the same, starts the same etc. Can't comment specifically on economy as I don't watch it that closely as car is not a daily driver and wit 32's speedo is out anyway. Manifold is still nice and clean though, I had intercooler hose off the other day.

All good here too, no issues to report. Best thing is the level of smoke out the exhaust is almost zero after doing the mod.

I can't say economy is any better, probably about the same.

Same here, no codes, runs fine. I am thinking next in line is the manifold cleaner fluid and installing a provent. No black death either. At 272k I think I must be in the lucky group. (fingers crossed and touch wood and all that)

I did the EGR defeat about 2 months ago and disconnected the EGR completely. I have since done +/_ a 1000 km with no ill effects. The puff of black smoke on quick accelleration has disappeared. The fuel consumption has gone from 9.3 to 8.2 L\100km on the trip computer and the performance has definitely improved.
