Does a Holden 253 v8 bolt straight up to the 3 speed Manuel?
Iv got a cj5 1975 and im fitting a 253 Holden v8, does it fit up to the 3 speed Manuel box or is it a different bolt pattern. If so is it true the turbo 400 and 700 are too long?
Which 3 speed box?
Too long for what combination?
Non/Stretch?
How far forward are you going to mount the engine?
Have you got a short nose or long nose front end on it?
What Tcase are you going to use?
Many factors that will contribute to your question.
Turbo 700 can be made to fit, but you'll end up with a tailshaft about a foot long in some cases.
You can get teh 253 trimatic pattern redilled to V8 pattern which would shorten the length. T350 would be the most I would stick in there, depending on the adapter and tcase though.
Any reason you wasnt a 253? They're not really much cop.
Well at the moment it's still got the standed 232 rambler moter and Iv got a 253 sitting here. I wanted to run standed tcase with an auto but not sure what way to go?
NO, The Gearbox is a different pattern. 253- Depends on if you go with a Trimatic or turbo pattern, you may need to either get the block redrilled to turbo pattern (More common) or use an adapter (Less common and can be more expensive if you can find the adapter).
Turbo 350 is a nice short box, then you'd need an adapter from the 350 - dana 20.

If it was me I would forget the auto and go to Dellow for a bellhousing to fit the 253 to the Jeep T14 3 speed. This would be both the easiest and cheapest option.

Has anyone done the 253 conversion while retaining the jeep auto???
I have been researching to do this but everyone keeps directing me to a complete holden 5.7l plus auto & swap it all. My idea is to provide my CJ8 with just a little more power & a sweet v8 sound without creating a monster & keeping the original running gear.
It may be possible to mount the T14 to the holden manual bell housing with some simple mods, using the holden pressure plate and a clutch plate that will marry up to the spline and the pressure plate.
I am not sure of this, but it may be an idea wirth exploring if you can pick up the parts cheap.
