ok polly.... lol
We were suppose to be up cruizer by about midday. That would give me plenty of time to "practice".
Well after me running an hour late (typical female) I finally got up the coast and met nick. We went to pick up his truck and that's when the fun began.
Thinking it would only take an hour to finish a few things on the truck I went off shopping with nicks mates' wife and we got back an hour later to find the truck as we had left it. Pieces of jeep everywhere.
Wiring still had to be done, the roof fitted, nets made up for the windows, and a whole bunch of other little things.
All things finished and went to start the jeep ----> NOTHING! No go. No on. No nutter. New battery, but no kick.
It was about 3pm at this time and i was a little more then edgie and nick was a little more than just simply frustrated. More mucking around, and ended up just jump starting her on a hill.
We left Palmwoods at 4pm!!!!
Got to the bp filled up and went to leave. Nicks jeep didnt start. I towed him out of the bp so he could jump start it again and off we went. We gave new meaning to speeding. My nerves were a wreck!!!
We got to cruizer park about 6:10pm..... We were suppose to be at drivers briefing at 6pm, yet we were just turning on the park road! Jumped out, signed in and flew up to the first stage.
I was praying to god we were at the end of the field... no such luck. We were SECOND in line. Just enough time to throw on helmets, gloves and get the winch gear out.... and off we went!
PRACTICE FOR KAT - NONE.
I nearly died when I saw the hill we had to winch up. Never seen anything like it before. Jumped out of the truck with all the gear and took to the sandy hill. 2 steps forward, 5 slides back.... 2 steps forward, big slide back. Was horrible!!!
Everything connected, clear winching - and blah.... jeepie died and wouldnt start.
LIKE HELLO!!! So adrenalin soon turned into frustration and anger. I had to climb this $hit hill 4 times and the jeep decided it wasnt going to co-operate.
Then we spent the next 30 + mins getting ourselves winched up, back, left and right to get us out of this jam without rolling over, without anymore damage then needed. The jeep just would not start!!!
Then as we finally get winched back enough so that we could be pulled out at a safer place the jeep decided to START! grrrrr..... we drove out with a big DNF and were so utterly pissed off it wasnt funny.
Got the jeep back out and decided we wern't going to run the next 2 stages and called it a night and went to set up camp.
Saturday morning my jeep was used as spare parts. Nick pulled out my starter motor and threw it into his and wella it worked! Thank god!!!
Pulled the winch out, and put it back in nice and tight.... all looking good.
Rocked up for 2 more stages running late.
All i can say is i'm so proud of us!! We did really well....
Someone forgot to put the front lockers on at one point and we lost a few mins, otherwise we were doing good. We finished one stage and drove straight into the next round where we then got a little damage. Andy has posted these in the "Rumourmill" Section....
We winched without a problem, everyone was cheering and we were having a ball ! Then as we were finishing the stage we were stuck in a hard place with a tree. I didnt care! I just kept yelling at nick to run it all over and finish the stage quickly!!! So he did just that.... Hence the front flare is no more.
After that I was completely and utterly stuffed.... so many people were coming up and congratulating us for such a good run! I was pretty pleased at our attempt but of course wishing it had been faster...
Then it was time for nick to hit the bourban, and me to hit the floor....
BIIIIIGGGGGG party saturday night.... Thanks goes to Mark and ummm his interesting but very amusing mates. If i've heard one $hit story, i've heard them all now. I'm just glad i got to bed before the CB sex started.....
Woke up early sunday ready to roll. Pulled winch out and got rid of any kinks and found out the jeep had barely any OIL ! Drive up to the homestead in a mad panic, grab some oil and running late yet again.
All ready for our 2nd last event and off we went!
Another huge hill to climb and we were right. Everything connected, then BANG! I thought ahhhhhh PANIC! Cable was gonna snap, thank god it wasn't. The break on the winch snapped instead.... out we were with a dnf.
That was it for us.... i went back to the camp and found myself some vodka and went all out. Lost the plot after that.....
We spent the rest of the day watching the All-Terrain challenge, and mudpersuits... plenty of good muslce to look at
After perve fest was over, it started to rain a bit and we packed up camp and left about 4:30.
I will let nick fill you in all the technicalities of the weekend.... I now know how to install a starter motor.
And I'm ready and roaring for the nite run this weekend! With or without the freaking winch!
All in all...... the weekend rocked! Plenty of good rigs to look at, plenty of good guys to perv on, and nick and i did damn well for a first try.
Good to see the same steadfast prepration goes into comps as us - the shining examples - of Team Goatsack
Glad u dudes survived and sorry to hear the 21 ball grenade has stricken another venerable himount. Is only a quick SG Lesleying away from grenadeproofness
Look forward to sitting eating pies in the cab as does NCW while Cooma Pete and Jeepgirl slave at the end of a couple of winchropes at future winch comps.
Wauchopes (XWC round 3) is the 1st w/e in June so set sleep to OFF and get that buggy ready to leave the night before the comp !!
yeah nick lost all his balls within a matter of 30seconds gordo.... they flew everywhere! i hate winches.
what's this about fibre winches? i hear they are suppose to be good.
Go see Chris and the helpful dudes at ATS Ropes & Nets in sunny Clontarf, Brisvegas for some SuperMax 8mm synthi rope - great stuff. We've used in two rounds now without a hitch - get it.... HITCH !!
Really well priced and great stuff, navvies love it !
wire rope is EEEEEVIL and of the devil.. also smells like old socks.
Oh yeah I know you're dying for ATS's number - it's 07 3284 1091
Supermax - good for anchoring your supertanker in a big swell too !
In sexy silver/gray.
RUMOUR:They are working on my masterful idea of Hypercolour winch rope so you can tell which areas have been stressed with maximum heat to repair before they break.
