What Jeep do I drive?: TJ
Default JK in action (near Auckland)

We had a JK Unlimited (Sport) on a trip with us near Auckland today. I got to test drive it as well. Didn't like the 3.8 V6 - seemed a little under powered. I have a few photos and a video of it going through (or rather getting anchored by the rear licence plate) a bog. In the second photo you can easily see where the licence plate started to drag. It is also clear in the video.

Its calling for bigger tyres and a lift!!!

I will post the photos and video in the morning.

Here are some pics.

I am working on the video (exceeding the limit of 2MB). Look at the last pic closely and you can where the licence plate started to rub on the ground and then basically got the whole rear end hung up in the air.

It was being used on public land and is a registered vehicle in NZ. This event was not organised by D/C or the dealers, so why would anybody not be allowed to see it or enjoy it. As for launching it officially, I believe its the end of the week. Its still doing the dealer rounds.

I have a two door TJ, I would be interested in replacing my wife's 4dr Honda with a 4dr JK (but not sometime soon). I actually got a call from the dealer today and he wants me to go on Saturday for more info and a look/see. TJ is my toy and have no plans to sell it soon (or ever).

3.8 V6 was okay, but with 4 adults and kit loaded it would be under-powered. I think should do a diesel turbo or a V8 hemi (I have seen a concept SRT 8 JK - looks nice).

JP Magazine April '07 issue has an impression of a SRT 6 JK Unlimited (with a winch up front). Rumor is, according to JP Mag, Jeep is working on using D44 front and D60 in the back with a supercharged Dodge Nitro 4.0L V6 for the SRT 6. That engine has more torque and more horsepower to start with. I have heard rumors about that engine replacing 3.8 V6 anyway.

I am still looking for the link for SRT 8.

Its just that, a rumor. That article was published in the April edition of JP Mag (April fools) ...I don't think that we will be seeing a wrangler SRT 6 anytime soon, and thank god for that!

Well, there are a couple of companies in US who could do a V8 swap for you in a JK, but its big bucks.

It will be well into 2008/09 before I look at buying a new toy.
