The amount of time I spent in outback pubs from 97 onwards explaining it was a "new" one and not a CJ cost me a fortune in grog.

It helps now that the brand is a bit more common.
Lol, I remember I parked my 68 ExArmy LandDog next to a brand new Defender outside a mates shop.
While we are chatting at the counter, a guy pulls in in a Commodore, spends a minute or so comparing the 2 comes in and announces "Wow someones done a top restoration job on that white Jeep"

i agree with you on some aspects, if i was touring id pick a landy over a jeep any day. especially where yo live, there isnt much proper 4wding, there is only telstra hill and the rest is mud... a landy would be much better up there

for recreational four wheel driving, its hard to go past a jeep, light, good approach and depature angles, ability to put big rubber on will minimal lift, easy to do your own fab work cause of the squarness of the vehicle, unique, they look cool, you can take the roof off, half doors give good visibility, shitloads of aftermarkt parts to choose from...
He didn't buty a Landy, he brought a Cruiser

Landrover = Landy or LandDog
Landcruiser = Cruiser

Sheesh next we'll have people calling a Rocsta a Jeep

haha well you can forgive the guy for that - there was probably hardly anything different about the two!

Yeah probably about as similar as a battered old CJ is to a new TJ or JK

Funny,I never see an 80 or 100 driven hard on big tyres without busting a CV or the weak as piss front diff.
You gotta spend mega bucks to get em to hold together.
