Just fitted a breather kit to the TJ. Diffs, T-case,Winch and box all feeding into one mini K&N filter. However when I got to the gearbox..............
After dropping the box (a bit)and finding the little sucker I realised its a very short nipple moulded into the gearbox housing with the alluminium rattle top lid on it. Nipple isnt long enuf to clamp a hose over it. Dont really want to take the box out to drill and tap a thread into it. Any ideas.

When I did mine ages ago i got some rubber tubing, heated it up to go over the nipple then applied some heat shrink to the bottom and then also ran a bead of sickaflex around the bottom to help seal and adhere the tube to the box. Fricker never came off until I replaced gearboxes and then still had a hard time pulling it off.

i just did mine on sunday, gearbox in car with no body lift. was lots of fun but i managed to fit some 8 or 10mm (can't remember which one i used in the end) oil cooler hose on and a small hose clamp. There definately isn't much of a nipple for the clamp but i think (hope) it should be just enough, it seems quite secure for now but i will keep a close eye on it.
you might already have seen this but here's a write up of someone else who's done it, although it's for 2002 TJ so i'm guessing not ax-15.

Jeezuz Mika. You musthave very small hands M8. It is as tight as in there. Thanks Lexx the magic word in your post is SIKAFLEX.
Either way I think the box will need to drop a bit more than few inches to do the job properly.

For smaller vacuum hoses on cars with the small nipples we use to use a cable tie. The hose isnt under pressure so its just needs something to stop it vibrating or been easily knocked off.
I used 8mm air hose (it's a pretty blue) and used the shank of a couple of larger size drills to get one end bigger - fuel filter fitted to the other end in the engine bay.
Largest drill I have is 1/2" and found it was easier to drop the drill in a glass of boiling water than to try and get the hose hot. The air hose did tend to shrink small after it had cooled but I also got a small hose clamp onto it. My transfer case has the 1" lowering blocks fitted so I had enough room (2006 6 speed). And it is easier to feed the hose down from the engine bay to the general gearbox area than to poke it back up.
Reading this thread again made me remember to check that my hose was still connected as a few of us from work are going out to play in the mud tomorrow.
