What is the REAL fuel economy of your Grand Cherokee?
Hi Everyone ,
I'm new here... And I need some help!
We recently decided our fuel guzzling mother of a -2002 Toyota Landcruiser advantage wagon- had been voted off the island and decided we wanted something a bit more classy and comfortable to drive (and preferably something that handled more like a good horse than a rogue bore).
So, we are pretty much agreed on the purchase of a 2006ish Jeep Grand Cherokee (preferably ltd)... The big drama now is... PETROL or DIESEL?
My wonderful other half just about has wet dreams over the Hemi.
HOWEVER; living 70kms from the closest unleaded bowser and doing most of my driving around our 10,000 acre property and on our 120-130km/h stretch of highway (our local coppers don't consider traffic offenses part of their forte and I don't think hwy patrol would even know how to get here );
I'm more worried about just how far a tank will get me before I'm left stranded?
We live on dead-flat flood plain country out west, so the economy on climbing mountain ranges and sitting in traffic is a bit irrelavent. We're more interested in good highway coasting efficiency?
Thanks so much for your help everyone and any more info, tips, etc. would be great!
Bess.

Hi, I have a 2005 limited with the 4.7 v8. City economy is around 18 L per 100k and highway is 15 L per 100. i love the v8 but given the choice again I'd be getting the diesel. Cheers Bazza.

Don't we all.
Given the choice I'd go the 5.7L hemi. But I'm not after fuel economy.
Long range tank may help you?
The way you explained it you should probably get diesel.

I have an 06 CRD, on standard tyres and rims I was getting 9 lt/100k hwy and 10.2 city.. Now it is lifted and with 265/70/17 rubber i'm getting 11.5 lt/100 city and 10..5 hwy.
And as for the Hemi comment, the CRD is quicker off the line and over a quarter mile is only half a car length behind the Hemi.

Well the diesel has 510 torques while the 5.7 has 500. Not much difference.
But the diesel has 160Kws while 5.7 is at 240kws. Pretty big difference.
Plus the deisel sounds no where near as good as a v8 rumble.

Hi Bess,
I have the 06 WH CRD and the you have to drive the diesel to really appreciate it. Accelleration is on par with the V8. We average about 10.5ltr per 100km combined town and country driving. We get the driving range we need between filling stations which we did not get with our previous v8.
