Here is where I put mine. I have what some have called "chicken legs" when I wear shorts but I reckon it would be ok for most people.

Yeah you'd need "chicken legs" with a 2-way rig mounted on the transmission tunnel in an XJ, suppose mounted under the dash would be even worse for leg room (I actually use the foot rest when on long hauls) ;)

This location doesnt seem to cause any problems for my passengers, even with my mates that are over 6'. Also the pre-update comes with a handy in-built mic holder (as seen in pic)

Yeah that would be the most economical use of space, I've seen a picture of someone using that area for a "switch bank" but I don't recall seeing a radio mounted there... off to google I go... go... go!

Getting a UHF for fathers day. Plan on putting the UHF in the roof console. Will do some pics when I get it.

Mine is in the RHR passenger footwell. In the process of getting a new Ariel.
It's a remote head unit.

Mine is now in the overhead console but had a remote head in the tray under the glovebox before and it looked neat!

Thanks mate, I still have to wire it all up though! I want to get it upholstered properly as I'm not happy with it which is why I haven't connected it up...

UHF mounting location issues are a thing of the past with those new small remote head radios, I had a look in DSE today at the new breed of Unidens... so tiny! :o

BTW Looks okay from where I'm sitting Benny ;)

Yeah they are super tiny aren't they? I mean almost the size of a pack of cards, the meaty heatsink on the back is reassuring of it's ability to maintain the power output though

i just got one of those tiny unidens on fathers day (beats socks). i am keen to try to mount it IN the centre ashtray so i can hide it when i park at the train station.

another place i was considering (before i got the micro uhf) was on the drivers side door near the window switches (just to be different!)

change of mind. will be installing tomorrow mounted to the (useless) central locking reciever as my wife plans to talk with it a lot from the passenger seat:rolleyes:

anyone here mounted their aerial 'yank' style, ie from the back?

Assuming we're thinking of the same thing mine is, discussed it on this (http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102420) thread.

I'm really happy with it, my reception is fine and I love not having it bouncing around in my view :D

Hears how I mounted mine , hid the main unit behind the glovebox & mounted the remote face to the side of the roof console ;)

fitted mine in the remote slot in the consol fitted lead to the back and ran that down to the center consol and fitted old style screw in plug and mic holder on drivers side so nothing hangs down or flops about when wheelin
