Howdy,

Today while driving I heard a terrible sawing sound like a grinding sound.
When I stopped to investigate I found this-

So I'm going to need to find a new pulley, I'm pretty sure it broke because it was weak from not being pressed flush over the enitre surface area due to there being spacers behind the pulley.
The spacers are there because the belt doesnt sit flat on the pulley for some reason.

Any solutions or ideas why the belt doesn't sit on the pulley properly? because using the spacers has destroyed the pulley so that is gonna have to be fixed another way.

Cheers

Small washers placed on the studs to space it out. That had too much flex because the forces weren't 'even' if you get my drift. The set-up you have there is bending the flange. You need to clamp the flange.

Hope that makes sence....

cheers

idler pulleys are available from Bursons they are the same as the XF falcon get bursons to cross reference the number to be sure and they are about a third of the price of a jeep one. Think i paid about $24 ?

The pictured pulley is not an idler pulley it is a drive pulley....

Are you still using a clutch fan assembly? because if you're not you can simply delete that pulley location and re-route a shorter serpentine belt

The spacers are there because the belt doesnt sit flat on the pulley for some reason.

How is your crank pulley's alignment? something is amiss if you've had to do such alterations ;)

Hey Dudzy mine too was out of alignment crank pully had shifted forwards. If and when it still does not line up change the HB, unless you are already onto it. I would dare say that is why it was spaced out. Check on the HB and see how close to the fan it is, as it may end up hitting it if it protudes further.

Hey guys yeah I suspected the HB but I can remember the old power steering pump was buggered and the pulley on it used to sit out quite a bit. So hopefully once it is back together it all lines up well and I can then start spending money on other things! like bonnet vents :D

Is the bolt on the harmonic balancer tight and the "pulley" pulled in tight enough?
Bought mine (HB) from Bursons for $99 and its made in Oz!
