Morning all,
ive been ripping what seems like everthing out my engine bay to get to my manifolds. all good so far, few tough bolts to get to.

Now my air con, it hasnt worked for over a year now and clutch bearing needs replacing so ive removed the compressor. the question is how much is safe to remove while im not using it? ive checked it all out and seems i should be able to take it all out to the point at the fire wall. Pic below.

aslo remove this and condensor.

im hoping i can remove all this till i get replacements and just block the firewall connection so nothin gets in to the system.

is this possible??

cheers

I know nothing about air con, but thought I would mention now would be a perfect time to replace the passenger side engine mount, usually shagged by 150,000 km.
good luck with it

Ditto on the engine mount.

Tip-don't disconnect the fuel lines.Just flip over the inlet manifold towards the guard, plenty of room to work on the exhaust.

If the aircon is still gassed up, then I believe it to be illegal to simply disconnect & let the gas out.
Having said that, who's going to know

PS: I didn't say that, some one must have hijacked my login.

ive already dissconected a line and a single fart would have produced more gas than what came out. so its odviously leaked out over time already.

repco will be able to get one, would be surprised if they had one in stock.
if you have to order one in, I suggest you get a price from wooders & or poly 4x4 (there are others as well). could be a lot cheaper than the local parts place.

Mount-Maybe you could drive to Wooders and pick one up?

Yeah flip the manifold upside down towards the guard. That way the fuel lines stay connected and avoids any future leaks,as they are a press on fitting.

ok, got manifolds off, air con out except condencer.

i have half a engine mount left on passanger side!! top half of the rubber is completely gone.

drivers side mount looks good.

are the mounts exactly the same and able to be swapped?

im thinkin ill just swap the mounts, putting the buggered one on the drivers side till i get another one and leaving the drivers mount on the exhaust side.

also my inlet is caked in oil n crap. any suggestions on how to clean it up while still in the car and fuel lines connected? my mate offered to acid dip it for me but then id have to remove the injectors which i dont realy wanna play with. would TB cleaner work or degreaser?

cheers

Good idea to also replace the welsh plugs while you're there.5x $6 each from Repco.Mine were shot.

Punch out with a large screwdriver and lever out.Get some scotchbtite pad and clean the holes.Wipe some Stag paste around the new plugs and tap in with a large socket or deadblow hammer.

Yep,you can see the marks down the block from a leaker.

I was going to do just that one, then thought better of it and did the lot.

just punched out the first and last plugs. they look almost perfect. tinyest bit of corrosion on them. tryied using a hammer but wasn't movin them so used the air hammer which popped them easier. the rear was so tight i bore 2 holes in the plug before the third try knocked it out.

can decide if i should pop the middle 3 since the others were so good. less chance of me stuffin up if i leave them. but still the chance that they could go if left!!!

Belt them off centre with a cold chisel to flip them, then lever out with a tyre lever.
