You need to fix your link, but I'd hazard you are most likely looking at oil filter adapter leak or rear main seal leak. Mine's got a real nice oil filter adapter leak going on - been waiting 3 months for o-rings from jeep though... ;)

Rear main seal,rear of the crankshaft.Big dollars,the gearbox has to come out,to replace a $15 seal....sorry.

But,eliminate the tappet cover leaking first, sometimes the oil runs down the back of the head.

Check out Marcus's website http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/, it is an invariable bible for most mod's and repairs you will ever need to do or have done to your XJ. Replacing the rear main you remove the sump and maybe starter motor, it can be tricky and messy although not beyond the grasp of a backyard hack thanks to go-jeep's wealth of information. Also check out Naxja's forum you can download the FSM.

No need to take the gearbox out, it's a two part seal in the petrol XJ (unlike the diesel). Just drop the sump, remove the rear crank cap and pull the lower seal out and then tap the upper around. Its a cheap fix if you do it youself but labour intensice so can get a bit expensive if you pay a mechanic.

Unless the top part of the seal gets stuck, and wont move, no matter how much persuasion you give it! I had to drop the crank down, but got there in the end!
