Who's running what? I replaced both my mounts before heading off to the cape and the passenger side one has fallen apart, not just cracked but big chunks missing with the fan hitting the bottom of the shroud due to it dropping so much (seems like a trip to Stockton finished it off but only noticed today). The sleeve for the bolt is loose in the rubber mount, basically undrivable at the moment.

I could stick another stock mount in but maybe the quality has dropped as this one lasted 10000km, just, where as the factory one did aroud 100000km and the one after that around 60000km. I'm interested in after market ones but dont want a lot of noise as I tour in it as well.

The factory one had done the flinders, some of FNQ and lots of other stuff with plenty of corrugations in its life and even then it had just sagged when I replaced it. The driverside that I replaced at the same time as the above one looks brand new. I'm wondering now how much of the 10000km it actually survived, I'll know for sure when I pull it out during the week and see how much red dirt is in there. No other damage from the corrugations just this engine mount :(

They are a soft grade, poly comes in at different grades and hardness and these are supposed to be pretty good vibe wise from what I have read.

I was looking at these too, ended up getting the nolathane ones for a good price, and don't even notice the vibrations anymore. I'll probably try these ones next time.

What about the M.O.R.E Bombproof mounts?

Read the reviews on www.jeepforum.com - hundreds of them and I couldn't find a bad one.

Available through www.quadratec.com too

I got these for a very good price, shipping on most of the others was a bit of a killer. The M.O.R.E bombproof mounts cost more (without shipping) than mine did including shipping. The Brown Dog cost more as well and for some reason an extar $20 for RHD XJ's when all they do is put one of the holes for the drivers side mount in a different spot and trim off some of the mounting plate.

Anyway, I should have these in on Wednesday sometime so an update after that.

I also await the results, did you buy via their ebay store? or is there a more cost efficient way, postage looks steep.

I am about to replace my passenger side mount, might just do both with good ones now.

Ironman Andy's mounts need to be modified for RHD, Brown Dog mounts do not. I have had my Brown Dog mounts in for a few week now and cannot fault them. Still a little bit of tingling, but nothing to be worried about IMO. Brown Dog also have rubber if a little tingle whilst idling at the traffic lights is going to bother you.

i had brown dog mounts in mine a couple of years ago. they were in for a couple of months and had nothing but problems with them. 1st they mailed the wrong mount. they sent me the one that was rhd and told me to keep the other mount. that was nice of them. but, the mount with the two bolts didn't line up with the bracket holes, the mounts were too narrow to fit in the block bracket leaving at least an inch of space, and the rubber perished after 2 months and fell apart. not to mention the vibes through the car was loosening my teeth. they may have improved by now but if figure that i couldn't go wrong with original mounts. and i haven't. been in for a couple of years no probs.

None of those problems here, went straight in without a drama :)

good to hear, because the construction of it is bullet proof.

Did one today, took a while as it is a very firm fit in the engine mount horns so was quite hard to line up with the holes. Finally got it though.

And this is what I found when I took the old one out!!

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc200/steveff/20111124_142413.jpg

I could pull the bush out of the rubber by hand.

And the new one :)

Left was the one I pulled out to replace with the middle one.

Steve, so the middle one was new not long ago?

Steve F
24-11-2011, 05:34 PM
Yep, left was in there for a couple of years and I replaced it before my trip to the cape (replaced late September) because it had sagged. The middle one has done a trip to the cape and back, it spent about 10 weeks in the Jeep.

Makes you wonder why it went so fast?
I replaced my passenger one with a Repco one just before I left Cairns. I will need to keen an eye on them i think.

Steve: do these ironman mounts bolt streight in without modifications?

Ditto.

My new pass side mount is 600kms old and looks like it's getting chewed up.

Steve F

These mounts dont bolt straight in, the passenger side does, nice and easy although the tight tolerances of the bush make it harder than a stock mount. The drivers side needs the mount to have the end cut off it and a new hole drilled (use the stock mount as a template), it's not a big deal and easily done. The Brown Dog mounts are made like this already but any other mounts would only take 10 minutes to modify if you have a grinder :)

So I drove it with one mount (passenger side) done tonight, it feels much more solidly mounted, accelerates better as well as the whole engine isn't moving about :) There is a little more noise but very minimal, also a slight vibe at idle or low rpm and under load, not enough to worry about or be uncomfortable though and if you didn;t know what it was like before you wouldn't notice it. I guess I'll have a better idea when I do the other mount though.

The pass side cops all the stress, might be OK just to run one.Leave the otherside std to keep down NVH.

They must move around a lot,the corro wouldn't help much. The engine must bounce around a fair bit, transfer weight wouldn't help I guess.

My gearbox mount is shot ATM,so I'm guessing that's not helping the new pass side mount.

Im running the Curries Mounts with Brown Dog Engine braces. I get a few vibes but the engine feels rock solid. Hopefully my headers might last a little longer now.

M.O.R.E. are a great design, but we need a RH engine mount to make them work properly.

Steve, If you changed the RH mount, can you drop it off sometime please?

just changed mine over. this is the passanger side mount. i just got standard one from Repco for $97 trade price. i woulda liked to get the aftermarket ones but this will do for a while i hope.

the bar pin was just floating in the mount. dunno where the rubber went or how long ago it went but at least its back for now.
