Howdy, after advice on camping rig setups... looking at a roof cage and maybe drawer system for the back. Would be nice to get the spare on a rear tyre carrier but think it might be more hassle than it's worth. What works for you?

I don't have a camping rig set up yet but I'm planning one for mid next year.

Roof racks - I was leaning towards the Rhino brand.
Instead of a cargo barrier, I was thinking of a cargo net. Lighter and can be stowed away.
Don't know about drawer systems but there are some nice set ups from some of the other XJ's on here.

I'm waiting for wooders with a protofab rear tyre carrier. This will free up a lot of space for me. It beats paying 1200 for shipping to try and get one from the states :P

My 2 cents for you :)

Check out SteveF's XJ as he had it setup for Cape York.

thanks fellas, I've got a 99 xj with ome lift and a few other extra's - nothing to full on as I pretty much use it for fishing, camping, etc. I'm leaning toward thule roof racks on the factory rails and a cage. I use it regularly for day to day stuff though, so not sure about the rear carrier as lifting the tail gate unobstructed is pretty convenient (especially since gassing the struts!). I do like the detours stuff, but like you say - shipping on heavy stuff hurts.

This is what I built for ours, as my wife uses it the most as a shopping trolley it needed to all easily removable and modular....
