Removing xj diesel injector pump!

Hi, I am new here. I am trying to resurrect my old XJ diesel. I am trying to change the diesel pump but don't have the special puller tool to remove the front gear from the pump. Has anyone done this without a puller? I have got all the rest undone...

I have had 3 XJs and a KJ diesel over the last decade and found them quite reliable so this is new territory for me.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Assuming its a 2.5VM, it shouldnt take much to loosen it as its a taper shaft.
I have not removed the gear though. Just looked at my spare pump.

Our resident expert on 2.5 VM's is a guy in Germany.
Have a look at the diesel XJ threads & you will soon find him (Deezelweazel). he is knowledgeable & helpful when he is not too busy.

with mine to remove the pump only,
i loosened the nut and gave a tap with the rubber mallet. it come loose with only one tap

Thanks for the replies, I will give it a tap with a copper mallet and see what happens!
