Looking to put a fuel cell in the rear. Trying to figure out how to put the tj pump/filter assembly back in the fuel cell as I can't find a fuel cell that takes the factory pump. Any ideas??? Or write ups etc...

first off..... why are you putting a cell in?

So I can stretch rear.

i'd just go with an after market pump, and surge tank setup. im pretty sure a fuel cell doesnt come with a swirl pot inside it.

this is one way to do it

no dramas mate. thats the way i was looking at going but probably end up just using there stretch tank underneath and still give me 5" of stretch with a 9".

How far are you stretching it? Just be aware you will always have a fuel smell in the cab which would be annoying as hell.

maybe make a cover to go over the cell it self with a sealable hatch bit to fill it up, and have it vented to out side the car

Yeh aware of fuel smell n sloshing etc no idea yet just been reading buildups
And seeing what works best. Im just doing th tj up real slow n being a tight arse so fuel cell will be next modd. Just trying to figure out what cell to use now....

just be a real tight arse and use the standard tank in the back.

Have a look around at race car fuel cells like this one https://shop.rocketindustries.com.au/products/RCI2050D
They come with or with out a foam insert that stops the fuel from sloshing around inside. Also has the fittings in that dropped down section there, if you were to mount it in the rear cargo area? You would cut a hole in the floor and drop this lower section through so all the fuel lines are outside the cabin, also face it towards the rear to prevent the pump cavatating during steep climbs. You can just run an aftermarket external pump and a pressure regulator with a return line back to the tank. Mount it all down at the fuel cell, the less lines there are the less chance for leaks. Set the regulator to supply 48-50 psi to the fuel rail.

I thought about doing that but as the tj fuel pump returns inside the tank
I dont know how much volume of fuel the tj pump returns, so i dont know what size to make return.... Or is there another way around it?

sorry what i meant was people have just put the standard fuel tank in the tub. no money spent really just make up some brackets and mounts and run some new lines.

The return will be the same rate as feed. The best way is to use the old feed line so you get higher volume at lower psi.
There is no need for a fuel cell set up to have any fuel smell at all. The problem is most people use cheap line and thats why you end up with a fuel smell.
Use good line and quality fittings and it's a non issue. I use either Speedfloow or Earls. While Speed flow are made in NSW its cheaper to buy them out of the states. Much like most things these days.
Any Cell worth buying will have internal baffles or be foam filled. So there is no reason for sloshing unless you buy a cheap cell. You can buy foam from ebay for about $14 per section.
My advice would be buy an alloy tank with baffles then get some more foam to place between the baffles.

This is the set up in my last race car I built to give you an idea. (It still in the fab stage in these pics so don't yell at me for the sloppy lay out lol)
What you can see is Cell> High volume low pressure filter> low pressure pump>Surge tank>Hi pressure pump.
Surge feeds back to Cell and has the return from the engine feeding it.

Last you can see the top vent on the tank and the over flow looped. Mounted in the top vent is a roll over shut off. Clearly also needed in a 4x4. Also the line is looped then run out of the car this will stop any fuel smell also.

Oh yeh I know what u mean bout standard tank in boot.

I'm still unsure what u mean about the setup return wise as the tj has no return from fuel rail...I've read your post uncle a few times and am still lost...please elaborate and be kind lol

run a new feed line then use the old feed as a return is what i think he means.

LOL Ok I was thinking you wanted to run a return from the above quote and had been looking for the fuel return flow rate.
I take it you want to know the output flow rate of the stock pump?
While I have not checked I do know the TJ is a hungry best so I would be going with a run of the mill 044. Overkill but its dead simple to get mounts for and you can even get surge tanks with 044 mounts built into them now. Also should you go looking for more power later on its one job out of the way.
So just run it dead head at 50psi and you will be fine. Mount a fuel pressure gauge on the rail while you are there.

I might just do one of the right ups I read with using one of those fuel rings and put in a custom cell and see how it goes. I'm to stumped as to how to set return n flow etc... didn't see your new post uncle. The tj pump flows 90ltrs a hr I'm pretty sure I read. That means 1.5lts a minute. I wouldn't be able to run it with no return...what I'm trying to get at is the fuel pump module returns internally when mounted in the stock tank and I dont know how to replicate that.

If you use an inline pump and a three port regulator and set it up like in the pic, outlet of the tank - filter - fuel pump - inlet of regulator - outlet of regulator to factory steel fuel line - return line from reulator back to tank.
adjust the reg to give you the correct pressure when measured at the fuel rail.
You can even use the factory fuel pump power to run the fuel pump, that way the ecu wont know any different.

I would use a bosch 044 pump and a regulator like this one

Yeh that would work..so as long as fuel rail has 50 psi should be sweet.
