Help..

I decided to put a new stereo in my 06 TJ yesterday and accidentally forgot to remove the antenna wire before yanking out the factory radio. Luckily (I think) I didn’t damage the wire itself it seems to have come away cleanly from the antenna mast.

I have tried googling a solution but most of the info I find is for left hand drive TJ's and they elude to the antenna mast being accessible by removing the glove box, for me the antenna is on the right hand side of the car

Anybody have any idea how I reconnect this wire?

Apart from not being able to receive AM/FM radio the radio is going sweet :)

check the antenna base first as its easy to do. it may still be semi attached.

1. unscrew antenna with a small spanner
2. pop plastic surround from mount with screwdriver
3. undo 3 screws
4. pull
5. hope its still attached

Edit: just realized you may have already pulled the cable out completely. is this the case?

Hey Sontssonts,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes unfortunately I have pulled the entire cable out.

I have been thinking about removing the atenna base connecting the wire and then feeding it through the dashboard that way?

I don't know if all TJs are the same, but I pulled my aerial cable out too.

Looking at it, I decided it was too short to reach the base of the mast on the side of the Jeep.
Discovered my aerial lead comes in 2 parts with a connection in the middle.

Take off the plastic 'knee' panel under the steering wheel have a look in there - if it's the same as my '97, you will find the rest of the aerial lead that leads to the base of the mast.
In this pic, I have also removed the metal panel which is behind the plastic knee panel and arrowed the steering column as a reference.

Come to think of it, what Wes is saying could be true for you. I know when I removed mine it was solidly attached to the base, so yanking on it wouldn't do much..... or it would damage something when it came away. It would make sense that it is in 2 parts.

Snapped a couple of pics of the other end of the aerial cable while I had the dash off.

EDIT -This isn't the back of the aerial base - the aerial lead is passing through an inner wall (like a firewall).

Wes, you are a Legend!!!!!!!!

Removed the knee panel, poked around and found it tucked behind some wires. Connected it back up and the stereo is going sweet.

Thanks guys for the speedy help.
