Jeep Wrangler tj engine Cherokee engine

Can anyone please tell me whether there are any jeep Cherokee engines that will suit a tj wrangler 2002 model (runs coil packs). Do any of the Cherokees use the same engine and set up as a 2002 tj wrangler.

Think from 2000 onwards the xj went to coil packs...I read somewhere a while back that the later engines where backwards compatible in early tj but not the other way round becuase of a casting in the engine to run the aircompressor down the bottom and not on the bracket like earlier ones..
Not sure this is the case with XJ engines but....
