What have you done so far to find the problem. Does it do it with the front wheels jacked off the ground. I take it there is nothing visibly bent or rubbing in the front.

just had a look with a torch
with the wheel being worked both ways
all looks normal but it is certainly not ok
will put it on the hoist in the morning

had this to my mechanic today
can't find any obvious fault
but it's quite noticeable when pulling the steering wheel to the left
other than that it steers/travels well

if it its your wheel hubs, replace them sooner rather than later. my understanding is that when they go, so do your wheels

Sounds a bit like steering box. This can be tested with a pressure gauge. Probably have to take it to a power steer shop.

Have you hit anything? For it to lose power assistance in one direction usually means the torsion rod is twisted, this is usually from a big front end hit/accident damage.
I'd be checking the ball joints and steering damper and all the small parts before I'd be pointing the finger at the steering box. Conversely, if you nailed the gutter at 80kmh today, it's probably the steering box.

i should have been more specific
as you turn left abruptly (reasonably) there is a momentary resistance
but the vehicle turns ok
unless the better half has not told me it hasn't been bent
have driven it a couple of hundred k's, and noticed it does not do it all the time,
if i turn the wheel gently it 's not noticeable

Is it a once off knock. Then is most likely the panhard or one of the ball joints attached to the steering and not the knuckle ones. Mine does the above all the time and I may never solve the issue atleast mine is not dangerous.

it's just one spot of resistance
my mechanic had a second look, thought it may be
the bushing in one of the uni joints on the shaft to the box???

Try removing the steering damper and see if it still does it....

What jj said.I had a similar issue and the rubber bush in my steering dampner was worn but in my case had no resistance when steering.
