My shocks are completely shot, and I have my new ones here, and will b fitting them over the next few days
Looking at the car, it looks as though I may not even need to jack it up to change them? Just turn the wheel to lock and work in the gap?
am I missing anything here?

Could do it that way but I found it much easier with the wheel off.

yeah take wheel off.
it gets niggly getting underneath the 2 bolts.
but yeah, very straightfoward
everything is so much easier when you have a decent lift :) no need to remove wheels easy access even roll under the axles on a creeper .

I do mine without even turning the wheels or using a jack, just need some muscle to keep them compressed when installing them, pretty easy really....

I just did all 4 of mine. 2 x small socket sets and it was all finished in 20 minutes. Didn't take wheels off or turn them etc....
