Just picked up my TJ today. Drive it 300km home. No hickups. Filled it 3/4 before trip and fuel light beeped on up the road from home. After ruff estimate that would make it around 500km to a full tank highway driving. Does this sound right?

What mileage do you guys get city driving to a full tank normally?

Just another thing. Driving in 2H, or 4H, how does it affect milleage?

Sounds pretty close mate!when I got mine I drove it from syd to tamworth, close to a six hour drive and still had about a quater of a tank left.that was stock.
Moved from tamworth to port Macquarie a three hour drive and plenty of hills
And that was with 35's and a busted rear tail shaft and in 4h.only used half a tank for 300 kms!!!!

Yeah true. I'm going to give it a good scrub down and oil change, clean injectors and see how it goes :)

Seems pretty right
But I would not be driving on the road in 4H it is not designed for that and will damage things like transfer case

Alright sweet.
Wasn't sure, im used to my awd which is constantly on 4wheels. The gear box uses a viscous coupling to balance between front and rear power. Thought this might have something similar :)

Can someone give me the low down on the transfer case settings, what they are used for and any dos and don'ts

Gianni,

There is no viscous coupling or centre differential in a TJ. They should not be driven in 4WD on non-slippery surfaces or damage to the drive train will result due to differences in rotational speed of front and rear wheels when cornering, etc.

Cheers,

ED

Yeah thought that was the case
Only put it in 4H to check what the seller said it was doing (makes a bit of a popping noise similar to when a syncro in box is warn and pops out of gear. It drives and randomly crunches/pops towards neutral. Just need to replace it or fix it I think

500km to a tank sounds like paradise...

I get approximately 300km to a tank on 33's...propably even worse than that!

I use about 20l per 100..... 72l tank = 350k's approx.

If it has a body lift, or the transfer case linkages are worn,(which are fairly crap to begin with) it may not be properly engaging in 4wd causing your issue
