What sort of setups do you have? Camper trailer, tent, swag? How do you pack it all in, swing out some ideas for me. Looking for another project. I was thinking of rigging up a fold out platform out the rear door that will let me lay out a swag in the back. Mostly looking for a simple and quick design that doesnt take up too much room so I can fit the rest of the camp gear in and get a decent sleep. Post up some pics of you and your TJ Camping!

Check this one out Skwake. Bloody good idea but won't fit me and the misses. http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113477

Don't forget to mount a plastic palm tree to each rear flair for the full affect lol

That hammock setup looks awesome! So does the fold out bed one that Mudnguts linked.

I've camped out of my Jeep on a few trips (longest was 4 weeks) and being just me and my mrs it was pretty good. I got a 3 man tent and a couple of fold out stretcher beds to go inside. Those beds are a major improvement to sleeping on the ground and they're not too expensive and don't take up too much space either because they fold nice and flat.

Chuck in your fishing gear, frypan, water can, esky / fridge, radio, a couple of camping chairs and one of those $20 propane gas cookers with the aerosol cans and away you go!

It all fitted inside the Jeep easily and we had a blast. Hope that helps.

If you use the idea in the link you could make another headliner to extend out like the old torana hatch hutch.

Same as I used in the FSJ.
A tarp, strapped to front and rear with a few occy straps, two poles to hold it up. a spare smaller tarp to act as a side wall if the wind or rain/snow is coming in sideways. Swag, esky, stubby holder (two in case one has a blow out) chair, and JetBoil stove. Freeze dried food, or snacks and the nearest high country pub. Waterproof matches or butane firelighter, firelighting cubes in case wood is wet, and the 023c Sthil.
Good for a week.

Pack camping gear in TJ.
Drive to camping spot.
Unpack camping gear and set up tent.
Camp.

This is the best set up we had, tarp was great in the summer,20 people could fit under it,to get out of the sun.
Have tried to minimise since, for camping on the go,but still seem to have as much stuff.
Have never owned a swag, but others we go away with have them. And we are always waiting on them to finish packing up.

I used to have a drawer system in the back, I put it in thinking Id be able to pack more in because Id have a more usable space... but have taken them out now...

With the rear seat out its surprising how much you can fit in the back, even when camping with my wife :)

I get in my:
50ltr waeco and removeable second battery
blackwolf turbo plus 240 tent (which isnt a small tent)
queen size 4wd mattress
2x camp chairs
2x large tubs for all the camping/cooking/4wding gear
fold away table
4kg gas bottle (for cooking and gas lantern)

If I'm camping with a bunch of mates and need 4 seats then I borrow my old mans trailer!!

iv got 4 big 60L tubs from office-works 2 have the majority of my recovery gear and the other 2 all my camping utenciles. then i have my tool box, my queen size self inflating matress, icebox for beer, esky for food, a tarp and some square foam mats (to put the tent on), an OZtent with 2nd room, $20 kmart cooker, and a few other bits and bobs it amazes me what i can fit in there!!

1 thing id like to point out with the sleeping in the tub idea u can get a specially design awning to go on the back of suv's/canopy's and that would keep out allot of weather (no need for roof rack its suction cups to rear window)

Although I wish the TJ was bigger it amazes me what i can jam in there. I have a 40L Engel on a slide on the passenger side, next to that a Space Case with all my tools, spares and recovery gear. Then above them is a Bestop Cargo Rack so i can still get to the Fridge with everything on top. Only thing i wish i had sorted out is a second battery.

I do have a lot of wasted space with the setup but it's really quick and easy to pack at the last minute/.

I've got an OzTrail Camper as well but being single again that never gets used.
