I am installing the OME 2" lift on a 2001 XJ Classic (which runs the 16" rims).

I'm trying to get as close to a 30" tyre as possible while staying within the QLD road regulations.

With that in mind, I think I can install a 255/70R16 (though I'm not across how much wider you can now go in Qld).

Does anyone have a view on either issue ie will it fit with the OME lift (with no doubt an adjustment to the steering stops) and is it too wide for the Qld regs (though it looks on my interpretation to be ok in that regard).

The following is an extract from the QLD Code of Practice Vehicle Modifications, if you click on the following link it will bring up the entire file, you will notice that you can increase the width by up to 50% 225 x 50% = 112.5 + original 225 = 337.5, so a 335 would be legal width, but way too tall.

Vehicle height can only be increased by 25mm, so that means a 50mm diameter increase so using Cooper Tyre figures as shown the standard 225/70R16 was 728mm tall and the 255/70R16 is only 763 tall which is 30.4" but more importantly 35mm taller than standard so YES you could use those tyres, you will need to check your clearances if using stock rims as they may rub on control arms at full lock, but that can be adjusted.

225/70R16 6.00-7.50 W 728 103T 50,000
255/70R16 6.50-8.50 W 763 111T 50,000

3.4 Wheels and Tyres
The overall tyre diameter can be increased to allow an increase of 7.5mm in vehicle height
for passenger vehicles and no more than 25mm in vehicle height for four wheel drive
vehicles (typically MC ADR category).
Tyres fitted to off-road passenger and light goods vehicles (MC, NA, NB ADR category) must
not be more than 50% wider than the vehicle manufacturer’s widest optional tyre. Tyres fitted
to passenger vehicles must not be more than 30% wider than the vehicle manufacturer’s
widest optional tyre.

I am running the same rims on mine with 245/70/16's, equates to near enough 30" and is a common sized tyre as most of the late model utes run them....

As it turns out, 255/70/16s just fit (with a small adjustment to the steering stops). http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/28/7e9y8eza.jpg

Were not many choices for mods on xj`s untill i found AJOR, JJ then most people still need to find a shop they feel is competent to do the work , so i guess ARB is an easy choice.

If I look at mine at the moment I have an ARB bullbar, IPF lights (for the moment), partial OME suspension kit and I have a set of Coopers as well that I can fit....

Indeed however, while I am an ARB fan, it is mostly coincidence. A good mate of mine was dismantling his 96 XJ after having bought a WJ so there was the bar and suspension, those lights suit that bar and the Coopers were cheaper than BFGs and Mickey Thompsons.

That explains the pre-update bar on the update.
You're right about the lights suiting the bar, have you seen what they look like with round ones?
I normally run PIAA lights which are slightly shorter in height compared to the IPF's but any mid sized rectangular light looks "rght" on and Xj with the ARB bar fitted.
My bar and springs (ditched the shocks to improve the ride) came from a 95 limited that I bought a couple of years ago, the Coopers were courtesy of JimmyB, mine are the ATR which I must admit I really like...

Yep, slightly longer wings were not nearly enough to justify a post update bar having regard to the cost. I actually have ATRs on the family WK2 which I'm fond off. Agree with the lights, square headlights equals rectangular spotties (particularly on that bar).
