I am currently planning this ride, plan is to fly into Delhi in early June, rent a Royal Enfield and make the ride from Delhi to Manali, then climb through to Leh.

The highway in northern India connetcs Leh in Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir state and Manali in Himachal Pradesh state. It is only open for only about four and a half months in a year in summer between May or June, when the snow is cleared, and mid-October when snowfall again blocks the high passes.

The average elevation of Leh-Manali highway is more than 4,000 m (13,000 feet) and its highest elevation is 5,328 m (17,480 ft) at Tanglang La mountain pass.

Check him out mate. He is the best guy for Enfield in Delhi. He can also get you in touch with some group of tourists doing the same route....

Thanks mate, good to know you recommend him as he is actually who I am using.

The rental on the bike for 14 days is actually cheaper than my flight from Thailand to India haha

I have one of my Thai mates coming with me on this trip, and also have another mate in Dehli who is joining us, so will only be a small group of 3 doing the route.

With the conflicts rising in the area, we have had to change the route a few times, and now we are staying to the eastern side of Kasmir to avoid getting shot!

Well from planning to execution, I leave in 2 days flying out of Bangkok into Dehli for the ride.

There some serious conflict going on in the west of Kasmir, so we have changed our route considerably to avoid the bullets and bombs.

The road is officially opened for the season, though it is still snowing, so that will make things interesting to say the least.

Well the long and the short of it is I didn't make it, I made it up to 4600mtrs and after 5 days of AMS (acute mountain sickness) which can actually kill, I made the decission to cut me loses and come down off the Himalayas and live to fight another day.

Still enjoyed the ride, disappointed I didn't make the whole journey as so much as been put into the organisation, but had to listen to the body.

Last year riding in China to Shangr-La near the Tibet boarder, I was at 4800mtrs with no AMS, mind you I was only at that height for a short time.

HAS MY FEELINGS ON INDIA CHANGED NOW? No, I still dislike the country
HAS MY FEELINGS ON THE PEOPLE CHANGED? Yes, I dislike them more than I used to
WILL I GO BACK? Highly unlikely

Sorry for disturbing this topic, but I'm currently plannning a trip to India. I can't figure out what visa I should get and how much time it'll take. Any help is appreciated.

Normal tourist visa application shouldn't take more than one week. You don't need to go to the embassy, the whole process can be done online here https://visa-to-india.com/. All you need is to have your flights (both ways), pay a little fee and have a valid passport of course. You will get your visa approval on the email within couple of days. No need to print anything if i remember that right, just save that confirmation in your phone, that should be enough.
