I drive a Grand Cherokee petrol, with mods, in which I have done weekend off-road trips. I am now intending on doing much longer journeys i.e. Simpson desert and don't think a petrol GC will fit the bill.
Any feedback on the diesel Wrangler Unlimited for this, such as experience of:
- fitting a 2nd battery
- fitting a long-range fuel tank
- load carrying ability - roof rack load capacity

I'm looking at 2nd hand circa 2010-2013.

Appreciate any feedback

Only bit of advice I have is there is no room under bonnet for second battery, I have removed the muffler (which is a big heavy empty cylinder that has no effect on the exhaust sound or spark arresting benefits) and have fabricated a box that takes place of existing under floor storage area, have yet to fit but that is where I am putting my dual battery system. If that makes sense.
My roof rack is bolted to fibreglass rear section of roof but the chassis mounted/ windscreen pillar mounted rack system would have a much higher capacity. Honestly haven't looked to see how much room is on left underside for auxiliary fuel tank...Oh, mine is a 2007.

I'm not sure that there is an under bonnet dual battery tray for a diesel JK. I know there is for both petrol models.

You might be better off looking at the rear enlarged tub to store a second battery or buy a battery pack that can charge from you cig sockets as an alternative.

Long ranger have a tank for the JK

Uneek also have a good roof rack system that bolts onto either the chassis or directly onto a steel rear bar that provides good weight carrying capacity. This you will definitely need as there isn't a great deal of load space in the rear of a JKU. You don't want to go putting heavy items on racks sitting directly on the hard top as they are only rated for 35kg.
