I have just bought a Wrangler and am wondering does anyone have 3.73:1 differentials fitted and how they perform over the 3.07:1. Specifically top gear highway performance, off road performance in high range and low range, fuel economy.

Mate - what sized tyres & what type of gearbox are you talking?

IMHO 3.73 would be an ideal ratio for stock - 31" tyres - bigger than 31"s you wanna look deeper.
I run 4.56, manual tranny & 35", and I found that the gears made a good difference in off the line performance, and make highway cruising more effortless because I wasn't reaching for 4th every hill. Offroad performance - is simply no contest....lower generally = better.....but be aware lower also equals slightly weaker....

Thanks fella's. The Wrangler is completely stock with manual gearbox. It just feels a bit high geared, although I managed 25mpg (showing age) from Khancoban to Queanbeyan. I have come back to four wheel driving after an absence of 17 years. Prior vehicles, two Land Rovers and a Landcruiser.

The only problem with looking at 3.73 to run smaller sized tyres is it's a fair sized investment and will need to be repeated you you choose to run bigger tyres in the future....
While 3.73 is ideal, even 3.54 is a big improvement & could be done cheaper....just a thought.....
Also if you want lockers get them done at the same time.
